About the founder

I have several years of extensive research and historical documentation experience, and recently had an article published in “The Ancestor,” the quarterly journal for the Family History Society of Newfoundland and Labrado, Inc, and have also exhaustively documented several cemeteries in the Bangor, Maine area. Giles W. Day, MBA, sole proprietor, and doing business as It's All Relative, will do everything in my power to work with you to ensure quality, and timely work is done. On a budget? I will work with you to try to get as much information as possible, and we will work up a plan together, before research begins.

We have a range of online and offline research tools, to help you discover your roots, and unanswered genealogical questions. Please review the following contract and if you agree, sign and return it at your earliest convenience. 

This Research Contract (the “Contract”) between _______________ (“Client”) and Giles William Day, doing business as It’s All Relative (“Researcher”), is subject to the terms and conditions contained in the document below and between the above identified parties.    

Researcher Responsibilities & Scope of Work  

Research and reporting will be performed in accordance with the Code of Ethics adopted by the Association of Professional Genealogists (https://www.apgen.org/ethics/).All information provided by the Client, which is not already a matter of public record or knowledge, will be held as confidential. However, by agreement with this contract Client allows Researcher to submit, at his discretion, a final version to the Board for Certification of Genealogists for independent and confidential review.   

Specific research goals:   

Client Responsibilities   

When final research, in full or in part, is shared with others in any media format, Client will credit both Researcher and the original source citations, and will not plagiarize report findings or characterize them as Client’s own work.  If/When any information from this report is share in any form of social media, Researcher and the original sources must be cited as the source of the information and the research.   

Fee Schedule & Invoice Procedures. This engagement will be conducted on a Time & Cost basis. An initial review of the research goal suggests approximately of___ hours of research will be needed to fully complete the above-listed goals. This is an estimate and, depending on the  

ease of record access, may require more or less time. The research fee is $50/hour plus expenses.    

The Client authorizes five hours of research and writing, and agrees to pay a retainer of $275, payable in advance, before any and all professional genealogical services will begin.  The retainer includes up to 5 hours ($250) of research/reporting and $25 of reimbursable expenses.  Any unused portion of the total retainer will be returned to the client at the conclusion of the agreed upon research.  Additionally, the client authorizes the researcher to perform up to _______ additional hours of professional genealogical services without further authorization and agrees to pay all additional research and reimbursable expenses associated with the additional research prior to receipt of the final report.  

Research Time Includes:  

 • Formulation of work plan  

 • Review of all documents and sources provided by the Client  

 • Research and analysis  

 • Written report of findings, including negative findings  

 • Recommendations for future research  

 • Copies, transcriptions, or abstracts of documents, as appropriate  

 • Evaluation of documents  

 • Travel beyond 20 min from Researchers office  

 • Telephone & email consultations with client  

Reimbursable Expenses when Applicable:  

 • Postage & Photocopies  

 • Microfilm/Microfiche rental  

 • Parking & Travel expenses at the rate authorized by the IRS  

 • Lodging  

 • Other incidental expenses  

Deliverable: Researcher will provide a written report based on the Client’s stated goals, which will include both  

positive and negative findings and recommendations for future research.  

AGREEMENT:   

a.  Client acknowledges that there are no guarantees regarding what information will be found and there is no way  

of knowing how long it will take to find information or prove facts and relationships. It is acknowledged that  

time leading to negative findings is also charged and that Researcher provides no warranty or promise that any  

or all ancestors, descendants or heirs can or will be identified or located as a result of this research.    

b.  This document consists of the entire agreements, and it supersedes any oral or written proposal or other prior  

agreement, understanding, or communication.    

c.  The client agrees to five (5) hours of work being conducted, plus authorizes up to ______ hours as needed, at a  

rate of $50 (fifty dollars) per hour. The total fee plus expenses will be paid within 10 (ten) days of receipt of the  

invoice.    

d.  Client gives permission for the use of research finding in the researcher’s portfolio submitted to the Board for  

Certification of Genealogist.  

Researcher:  Client: My signature below confirms that I agree to the above terms and  

conditions.

By engaging in genealogical research services provided by While It’s All Relative, you acknowledge and agree to the following: 

Accuracy of Information: While It’s All Relative strives to provide the most accurate and comprehensive genealogical research based on available records, we cannot guarantee the completeness or accuracy of the information. Genealogical research is inherently subject to limitations such as incomplete records, errors in historical documents, and the availability of primary sources. 

No Guarantee of Results: While It’s All Relative does not guarantee the discovery of specific ancestors, familial connections, or the resolution of specific genealogical queries. Our services are based on the current knowledge, expertise, and resources available at the time of research. 

Liability: While It’s All Relative and its affiliates are not liable for any losses, damages, or costs incurred by clients arising from the use or reliance on genealogical findings. Clients understand that genealogical research may involve uncertainty and may not yield the expected results. 

Third-Party Records: Any third-party records or services accessed during the research may be subject to their own terms and conditions. While It’s All Relative is not responsible for any issues arising from the use of such third-party materials or services. 

Client Responsibility: It is the client's responsibility to verify and authenticate any genealogical findings or conclusions obtained through our services. While It’s All Relative does not assume responsibility for the legal, emotional, or financial implications that may arise from the use of the genealogical research provided. 

By requesting genealogical research services from [Your Business Name], you consent to the above terms and agree to hold [Your Business Name] harmless from any legal liability related to the findings or outcomes of the research.
